The Story

“Forbidden Fruit” – As a metaphor outside of the Abrahamic religions, the phrase typically refers to any indulgence or pleasure that is considered illegal or immoral.

But, “The forbidden fruit for women” has meant the prohibition of many things: Knowledge, freedom, sex, expression, autonomy…

In this piece, I capture the beginning of a series of self-portraits where I embody and protest, through my own experiences and intimate experiences, against the sexual stigmatization that so many women still experience today.

“Forbidden Fruit” focuses its message on self-eroticism, self-satisfaction, not only sexual, but on a personal, family and social level… my own body as a generator and receiver of joy and pleasure. As a source of creation.

This piece is closely linked to an experience I had several years ago, a photography student asked me to pose for her for a task, at that time I lived in a violent and possessive relationship, I remember that when she asked me, I immediately I felt like doing it, but a few moments later, fear invaded me: What if my partner doesn’t like it? If you don’t approve? And if he thinks that I am “wanting to provoke” men if I do this?… He only agreed to “give me permission” if my face and buttocks were not visible… but when I saw the photograph I could “read” in my, the grief… all my body language screamed “fear”… it was a photo in the same position as this painting, from behind, even she noticed my fear and told me: “Don’t worry, just part of your back will be seen I felt so divided internally…

Now, so much time later… without prejudice and without repression, I see myself naked and free, reconciled with my body, my freedom and my autonomy.

After a lifetime of repression and secrecy, the enjoyment of sexuality in women faces a revolution for equality, visibility, freedom and the normalization of their instincts and drives beyond love, their sexuality as a crucial aspect of their identity and emancipation.

For women, today still exercising our sexuality is a political act.

It is important to avoid direct contact with sunlight. If you want to save the artwork, instead of having it exposed, it should be done in a drawer and protected with a tissue paper or any other soft paper.

If you exhibit the artwork in a room, it must be protected by glass or methacrylate with UV protection.

If you want to frame it, the materials must be acid free as well as the passepartout. If the frame is made of wood and is in direct contact with the photo, it must be made of natural wood and without varnish.

Adhesives must also be acid free. If not, any other adhesive could leave yellow marks and deteriorate the support.

The work should never be touched directly with the hands in order to avoid leaving traces of grease or moisture. You have to touch it with cotton gloves like the ones that we enclose inside the package.

Do not screw the photograph back on after it has been removed from the tube in case you have received it like that.

Store the work in a cool, dry place preferably at a room temperature between 10º and 30º with a relative humidity between 49% and 60%.

If you have acquired more than one photograph, they should never be touched between them since the surface is very sensitive. You should always put a tissue paper or, at least, another soft paper between the both of them.

Receive a thoughtful touch with every purchase – a pair of pristine white cotton gloves and a personalized postcard.

To ensure the safe delivery of your artwork, we take utmost care in packaging. Depending on the size, your piece will be shipped flat or rolled in a secure tube, carefully encased in bubble wrap for maximum protection.
